South Korean Retail Sales Up 13.7%

The county’s post-pandemic economic recovery was reflected by both online and offline sales last month, The Korea Herald reports.

Data published Thursday by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy showed that the total sales of Korea’s top 25 online and offline retailers reached 12.3 trillion won ($11 billion) in April, up from 10.8 trillion won during the same period last year.

Offline sales increased 11.2 percent year-on-year. Demand for luxury proving especially strong due to continued global travel restrictions: sales soared 57.5 percent compared to last April and department stores sales jump 34.5 percent.
